Vlog 37: Working Water
In this instalment, I move off from Braunston and head to the east side of Rugby, firstly to do a bit of laundry and get some diesel, then onwards to Hillmorton Locks. There I take a look around and chat to volunteer lock keeper Maurice Farndon about a restoration project that’s underway.

Lovely vid. One suggestion. When using Pins [3:15] avoid using the ‘D’.
They break. Better round the pin & thru the D so if pulled out the pin stays on the line.

I have really enjoyed your vlog. I live just outside of Nashville, TN. Don’t think we have very many canals over here, other than the big Erie Canal that’s up in the northeast United States. None close to us, anyway. I had never heard of a narrow boat till I stumbled on the Great Canal Journeys program with Timothy West and Prunella Scales. My husband and I were hooked after the first one. I just can’t seem to get enough. I wish I could experience the real thing, but we’re both in our sixties and not in the best physical condition. Anyway, I can’t wait until the next episode of your adventure. Thank you for what you do.
There are plenty of narrowboaters in their sixties and older but if, as you say, you’re not totally up to it then maybe a voyage on your own wouldn’t be best. I’m pretty sure you can get passage on “hotel boats” (I went past one today) where there’s a crew to do all the hard work and you just enjoy it! No idea what a week’s such holiday would cost though, probably not cheap. Glad you’re enjoying my videos, cheers.
