Vlog 281: The Self-Preservation Society
The Wooden Canal Boat Society in Ashton-under-Lyne is a wonderful group of enthusiasts who not only renovate and bring new life to decaying ancient wooden narrowboats but also provide valuable services to the local community. And, curiously, the boats have been restoring the volunteers as well.

Very interesting David. Particularly good as to see that these projects help people through times of stress etc. Well done.
I was involved a number of years ago in WW2 aircraft restoration/conservation and one of our problems was finding volunteers who had the skills needed. I would imagine that the Wooden Canal Boat Society could eventually have the same problem, but hopefully youngsters will come forward to learn these skills. All the very best to them for keeping these historic boats afloat.
They’re an amazing group of people but yes, always problems finding skilled help.
