Vlog 220: Wide Eyed

At the end of a very warm day in June, I set off from Shugborough to Great Haywood, turning there onto the Staffs & Worcester canal because from there down to Autherley is a section of canal I’ve never done before. I moored at Tixall Wide – beautiful – and then headed on around Stafford before being perplexed at what people have at the end of their gardens in Acton Trussell.

Update: it’s been suggested the Acton Trussell mannequins could be related to this https://www.theguardian.com/artanddesign/gallery/2019/jun/18/the-circus-and-freddie-mercury-scarecrows-in-staffordshire-in-pictures

  1. Hope that you visit the cake shop on the roundabout, Jaspers I think. Fabulous shop with fresh cream cakes, sandwiches, etc. Definately a must visit.
    Best wishes
    David

  2. Nice to see you cruising again. We’re landlubbers at the moment! Brand new gearbox being fitted by our local boatyard. For such a relatively small piece of kit why is it so expensive? Over £1000 plus labour of course! Still it has to be done. We’re heading south from the Northampton area when back on board. Take care.

    • That sounds unpleasantly expensive but will make a nice thing to have, I suppose!

      • Ah. I should have made it clear that the ‘old one’ was beyond economic repair. We could just move on tick over only, anything faster and the engine would rev quite happily with no forward or reverse propulsion. Cheers David. Keep those vlogs coming.
