Vlog 31: Master and Commander (Part 2)

In this video, we – my friend Neil and me, each on our own boats in convoy – continue along the arm to the end, moor up, go to the pub and then trundle back.
I know what caused your hot and cold water to swap in the pipes, even though the pressure is the same. Cold water is heavier than hot water, so when both the hot and cold taps are open together, and you shut off the flow to the shower head, then depending on the layout of the piping, the cold water will displace the hot water, causing the hot water to rise as the cold water falls. Since both pipes are likely going from the floor up to the taps, the cold water will trickle down the hot water pipe behind the wall, the hot water will likely drift upwards (perhaps into the shower head flex pipe) stratifying the hot and cold water messing up your preset temperature until the flow is restored and the stratified water is purged from the pipes. I know this is not very helpful, but it is interesting to understand why it happened.
