Vlog 90: Sweet Sorrow
In this vlog I bid farewell to Alan, Wendy and the dogs Max and Monty, and continue along the Trent and Mersey canal encountering a large plastic bag around my propellor, a lot of shallow canal edges and some quite pretty countryside too.
I’ve seen ads for rope cutter disks/blades that can be attached to the prop shaft just forward of the prop itself. What is the verdict on the effectiveness of these devices for clearing, for example, the plastic bag you snagged as shown in this vlog?
I’ve heard of these but have never tried one and don’t know anyone who has one so unfortunately I cannot comment on their effectiveness.
Sounds like an opportunity for another equipment vlog. :-)
Hello David
Another great vlog! Just a general question for you ahead of my week on the cut in June if I may? Do you tip the volunteer lock keepers? Is this expected? Or are they truly just volunteers?
Many thanks
Richard
Hello. No, it is not customary to tip the lockies; just a pleasant “thank you” is quite sufficient. They are truly volunteers, doing it for the love and enjoyment of boats and meeting people and keeping active. Hope you have a great time in June. Cheers
Hello. We are just about to put our house up for sale. Going to Crick on the Saturday. Love your vlogs and really looking forward to seeing you out on the Cut.
Hello Tracy; wow, what an exciting time for you. I hope it all goes smoothly and you enjoy boat life. Glad you enjoy the vlogs. Cheers :-)
Why isn’t there any thumbs up on this Vlog David I want to give you a pat on the back. Keep up the good work.
Consider the pat duly received! Thank you.
