Vlog 394: Home Improvements
A few weeks ago, I uploaded a video discussing some of the DIY projects I have in mind for my narrowboat, Gentian. There was also a video where I started some of those projects, resulting in the mysterious loss of power to my water pump. In this thrilling episode, I explain what went wrong with the pump and show you updates on the other improvements I’ve made.

Hi David, great work on the DIYs! Question on the gas bottles, can you have them refilled in the locker or will you have to “dis-assemble” the setup and remove the empty one? Also, how did you come up with a fix for the 4G antenna mount? Cheers, Jim
Hi Jim. Calor bottles are not refilled (at least, not by the consumer or even the wharf). You exchange the empty bottle for a full one and the empties are sent back to Calor for refilling. So yes, I will have to extract it when the time comes (but on my old boat, a single 13kg cylinder lasted 6 months and that was with me living aboard, albeit that on this boat the gas is used for heating as well). I found the antenna mount through a lot of Googling and various suggestions in the video comments!
