Vlog 381A: Polepole
As part of my ongoing journey bringing narrowboat Gentian down from Lincoln to the Midlands over the summer, I had stopped at Kings Orchard marina in Lichfield. The next step was to take it to Springwood Haven marina near Nuneaton so in this video I begin this leg, getting as far as Polesworth, and sharing a (narrow) lock with another tiny narrowboat on the way.

You beauty, David. We’re in Melbourne, Australia, and spent just a week on a narrowboat on the Llangollen in June 2014. Alas, Covid etc stopped us getting back, but we will get there, for at least a month on the canals. In the meantime, I have happily found your easy-to-listen-to videos and so far followed 381B & A alongside my Google Earth canal routes while watching the vids. My wife jokes I am a lost cause. I love it and am looking forward to more.
Hello, thank you. I am so pleased you are enjoying the videos! Cheers
I was asking our English friend, Jill, if she was familiar with narrow boats when she lived in England. She called them barges. Her Husband,John, was a lockee when he was 17. That was a while ago as he’s 80 now.
An awful lot of people call them barges because traditionally, they were. But now it’s strictly only true if it’s carrying cargo really.
