Vlog 274: Ethel the Unready
A long-standing viewer of this channel was kind enough to offer me a day trip on her boat as she came along the Grand Union canal from Gayton to Weedon, so of course I jumped at the chance.
For the full (ish) slow TV, realtime version of the cruise from the bow-camera, see https://cruisingthecut.co.uk/2022/08/03/274a-not-a-vlog-slow-tv-cruising/
The little grey boat with the outboard motor you met in this vlog, I’m thinking it’s a funeral boat. A floating hearse so to speak.
It’s the combination of the color, the drapes along the windows and the four lights on the cabin.
It’s Just a guess of mine, so do correct me if I’m wrong.
Lovely vlog once again, really enjoyed it. Cheers, Jobim
Hi. I hadn’t considered that but you might be right!
In the UK, you drive an auto on the left side of the road but run a narrowboat on the right side of the canal. Any logical reason?
Hi, please see my website FAQ page here on this website
As a PS to my earlier comment. The spot where there are shed loads of reeds and the oncoming boat got grounded. Until earlier this year 2 boats couldn’t pass there as the trees etc were restricting the canal to a single passage. Now that the C & R T have cut those trees back boats attempting to pass side by side will get caught out and ground. From experience I will always wait for oncoming boats to get through. As usual take care young man.
Ah! How silly they didn’t dredge it at the same time…
We know that stretch of the GU – north and south – very well as we moor at Gayton Marina. Couldn’t spot our boat though!
I hope it all goes well for the young girl and she enjoys living aboard.
Thanks Barry, Emma is very appreciative of all the lovely feedback she’s been having.
Very different from your earlier Vlogs, David, though equally as interesting and good to see that you’re keeping up your skills! Keep up the good work.
Thank you – and some more cruising videos to come from me soon!
Great to see Emma enjoying her new life aboard her narrowboat. Also nice to see James at Rugby Boats, I’m constantly viewing their offerings on Youtube. I wish Emma well in her narrowboat adventures and much success with her boat.
Cheers Michael, Emma’s had a lot of lovely goodwill from viewers and is enjoying all the feedback.
