Vlog 172: Food Glorious Food
After several pleasant days moored at Hawkesbury Junction on the North Oxford canal side, it was time to go through the stop lock and up the Coventry canal for a short way before turning right onto the Ashby canal. However, I also needed food supplies, so I first headed away from the Ashby to a supermarket about a mile or so south of Hawkesbury.

The trick of hanging a fender off a mooring spike when you can’t hang it off the boat in the right place is one I hadn’t come across before, and it’s absolutely brilliant! I’m definitely going to remember that one for when I need it. Cheers!

Your side trip down the Coventry to go to Tesco was most interesting as I plan a trip for 2021 in which I hope to do most of he Warwickshire Ring and the Four Counties Ring cutting off the B & F section but trading it for the LLangollen. Tesco was handy for sure but the best we have seen so far is in Rickmansworth on the GUC at Frogmoor Wharf. You moor right beside the Tesco. It is a 50 ft walk to the front of the store.
Slowly catching up but I must say the VLOGs are incredibly helpful and informative. The 3 Vlogs on classic engines were great as well.

Thank you. Yes, there’s a few spots like that – when I went down the GU towards London, I think it was coming out of Milton Keynes there’s a Tesco right next to the canal, with moorings. Very handy!

I found the Pump House quite interesting David. I’ve often wondered . . . just what and where is the source of water which fills these canals? I had no idea that one source could be as simple as well water. I imagine that some of the canals utilize a river as their source, but I suspect this is not true of all of them. It would be interesting to know if there is a book published which provides the information on just where each canal derives its’ water from.
