Vlog 327: The Stream in the Sky
At 220 years old, the world-famous Pontcysyllte aqueduct in north Wales is doing very well for its age but it does need a lot of care and maintenance. Every 20 years it’s drained of water for a full inspection and I’ve been along to see what the Canal & River Trust’s engineers have found this time around.

Hello David,
Not sure if the problem is my end or yours here.
Since you changed the photo of ‘Stream in the sky’ to ‘Empty’ I cannot view any episodes. All I can see is a black blank screen.
Everything else works fine on my Mac, so could it be a problem your end?
Cheers.
Hi, no it works fine here. The change of thumbnail is on the YouTube end and would have no impact on playback. Not sure what’s going on for you, sorry!
Wow, I thought examining locks was pretty amazing (and it is!), but this is on a whole ‘nother level. Oops, pun not exactly intended. How fabulous that they allowed you in to film and interview folks.
I wonder what Thomas Telford and William Jessop would think of their achievement still going strong two centuries later. (Do you know if they ever estimated its expected life?)
That’s a very good question and unfortunately I don’t know the answer.
Very interesting David. It does make you wonder how they managed to construct it. How did they know for instance that all the supporting towers would be the same height to get it level? A giant spirit level? (Joke)
As usual take care young man.
It’s mind-boggling and I don’t have the answer other than “they were very clever”!
