Vlog 321: Cruise Control
After various friends raved about enjoying holidays on cruise ships, and having wanted to go to the Canary Islands for a week over winter anyway, I decided to take the trip as a cruise, choosing a fly-cruise on P&O’s ship “Azura”. This is my review of the vacation. Travelling alone, I paid the miminum fare I could find for a solo inside cabin with no balcony etc.
Normal canal-oriented service will be resumed shortly!

Your life is usually low environmental impact. What kind of consideration do you give to the devastating impact cruising has in the environment? Not judging, just wondering.
Unless you built a straw hut to live in, grow your own food and never go anywhere, every single aspect of every person’s life has a detrimental affect on the planet, especially clothing, food, travel etc. Everyone has their own impact and I don’t believe mine to be any worse just for going on a cruise. Th industry is aware of its impact nowadays and are increasingly attempting, just as airplane manufacturers are attempting, to make their fleets less harmful but it will inevitable be a slow process. In considering a cruise to the Norwegian Fjords, I have already looked into a company called Havila which runs hybrid LPG-electric ships.
Hi David, nice episode once again. Of course Tinder could be an option, but wouldn’t it be less awkward to ask Lorna as a companion? Her being ‘the wife’ after all… Well, you’ll have to share a cabin of course but there must be cabins with two single beds I guess. Anyway, keep up the good work! Looking forward to the next one. Kind regards, Jobim
Lorna is a good friend but she has a job and life of her own, she’s not necessarily available nor would necessarily wish to come along!!
Superb, descriptive and quite informative . I have always been impressed by your grasp of the English language. I too have never given Cruse ships much of a thought for your very same reasons. My wife and I are in our mid 60’s and just retiring and of course crusing is always a topic that friends bring up. A much smaller ship would also have to be one of the things that may make it happen. We are Americans and one of my bucket list items is to “cruse the cut” once in the UK. I have watched you channels for a few years and always find them entertaining and richly filled with enjoyable content.
Take care,
Thank you. I hope you get a chance to try our wonderful canals soon!
Um. Cruising not for me David but very interesting. Just too many people in a confined area! Although having said that my wife has persuaded me to go on a European river cruise in April. Smaller ship, less people. Time will tell!
Cheers.
Hahaha I look forward to your thoughts afterwards!
You gave me some much needed chuckles. Shamelessly, I confess to 24 cruises since 2001. We were usually 4 couples. Bermuda, my favorite, Alaska, the Med., Mexico, Bahamas was my least favorite. Some more than once. Love your review and you are spot on. Yes . . um . . go on Tinder, lol. Be lucky, Ellen Carroll in N.Y.C.
Thank you. I think Alaska sounds particularly interesting!
