The Regent’s Canal runs through much of the middle of London and is a surprisingly peaceful oasis of calm amongst the hustle and bustle of the city. And yes, there is a shark! I joined the St Pancras Cruising Club who’d arrange for a huge convoy of boats to travel along the canal, assembling at Limehouse Basin by the end of the day.

I was searching canal history and this Vlog came up. Don’t know why. What I was looking for was any recommendations on books about the history of building the British canals. I’m in the States and remember as young boy going to visit what little was left of the Ohio Eire canal. Was fascinated by the mechanics of it. Came across your videos and my interest was peaked again. Any book recommendations would be appreciated. Thanks

Hi David, excellent vlog once again. Fresh water sharks appear to be a fairly uncommon sight I’m told. So congratulations for spotting one.
The flaps on the side of this sailboat you saw are not a rare sight in the Netherlands, especially on old fishing ships and freight ships.
We call them swords or sideswords. They are used on flat bottomed boats, that have no keel, to prevent them from being pushed to the side by the wind. Must say I’m quite interested to know what they are called in English.
