Oh . . . the Middlewich Tea Shop looks so charming and inviting. I particularly enjoyed this one too! Thanks David ;)
Hi – just wanted to say how much we appreciate your videos. We found them whilst doing some research online (used to hire narrowboats years ago and are now researching buying one).
We ended up connecting a laptop to the telly last night and ‘binge’ watched the journey from Foxton Locks to Middlewich, which brought back many happy memories and reinforced the plan to get a boat as soon as is practical. Next think I know, Sandra is watching more vlogs at 7am this morning on the ipad, as you are giving a tour of the boat!
This brings me to a question we had when watching – what is the ideal maximum draft for a boat these days, to be able to get in to moor easily? Some sellers will state a draft (e.g. ABNB do) but others do not. We’d really appreciate your thoughts and experience in this area!
Thanks and regards,
John & Sandra
Very glad you enjoy them! Hmmm, ideal maximum is tricky. Shallower is better in terms of not grounding but it makes you more susceptible to wind, I think. My boat is 2’3″ and is OK most of the time, though as you will see in the videos I do scrape the bottom occasionally when mooring. I suppose I’d like a couple of inches less, so maybe 2 feet?? That said I know of boats with greater and lesser draft whose owners are quite happy!
