Vlog 84: Locks of fun
In the second of my cruise vlogs for this year I move the boat from Braunston to Crick. This involves a lot of locks with which I had a lot of help, thankfully. There are also two tunnels and some lovely mooring spots. Join me!
One could try with assistance, anchor on river when moored to the bank when river is up a bit,. just a little, not a lot. Then undo the mooring ropes; don’t let go of the bow rope. If anchor set right it should hold fast. May give you bit more confidence as and when/if you unfortunately need to do so for real, as you will have other things to worry about at the time.
One has a Danforth anchor, shackle, 20 foot of 10 mm of chain and minimum of 50 foot of 12-14 mm of non float-able (nylon) rope ready for use.
Even when moored on river in flood one can put out the anchor by walking up the bank with it and also an extra rope at the bow to bank ten yards up stream from boat to tree. Then you may just sleep with sweet dreams rather than live the nightmare. http://www.animatedknots.com/
Cheers!
Really interesting. Well done and thank you. Would have loved to have seen you throwing in the anchor and retrieving it!
Keep up the good work.
Thank you
David
I really hope I never have to throw it in :-)
Well done, David. Bet you’re looking forward to the River Soar in a bit?
I expect it’s terrifying!
